And I realized I don’t want to get in the habit of ‘checklist reading'—paging through an old book for no other reason than to say I’ve read it. Ultimately, we live in a consumer society, and it is really easy to let the habits of consumption, the habits of a collector, seep into everything. Even our reading choices. On reading the classics.
