2010 WA Premier’s Book Awards Shortlist Announced

The shortlist for the 2010 Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards was announced today, and we’re delighted to report that it includes both Stephen Daisley and Leanne Hall.

Stephen Daisley has been shortlisted in the Fiction category for his astonishing debut, Traitor. Traitor won the UTS Glenda Adams Award for New Writing at the 2011 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, and has been shortlisted in the 2011 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, the 2011 Commonwealth Writers Prize and the 2011 Australian Book Industry Awards.

Leanne Hall’s debut novel, This is Shyness, is on the Young Adult shortlist. This is Shyness won the 2009 Text Prize for Young Adult and Children’s Writing, and was a Notable Book on the 2011 CBCA Young Adult Fiction list.

This year, there will also be a People’s Choice category. As one of the six shortlisted titles in the Fiction category, Traitor is eligible for this award. Voting opens on 25 July and closes 2 September, through the WA State Library website.

Congratulations to Stephen and Leanne, and fingers crossed!
