Michael Heyward in conversation with Patrick White’s literary executor, Barbara Mobbs

Join a celebration of the launch of Patrick White’s ‘lost’ first novel Happy Valley republished by Text this year. 2012 marks the centenary of Patrick White’s birth, the only Australian to have been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Barbara Mobbs started in book publishing in London over forty years ago. On her return to Australia, she worked for Ure Smith, one of only two Australian publishing companies at that time. She was a literary agent with Curtis Brown and started her own agency in 1986. She now represents over 65 writers and illustrators working in adult literary fiction and children’s books. She is also executor of the Patrick White estate.

Michael Heyward founded the literary journal Scripsi with Peter Craven in 1981 and co-edited it until 1989. As Managing Director of Text Publishing his ambition is to publish books that make a difference to people’s lives. “We believe that reading should be a marvellous experience, that every book you read should somehow change your life if only by a fraction.'
