In May, Liao Yiwu was prevented from leaving China to take part in the 2011 Sydney Writers' Festival. Since then he has escaped from China and is now living in exile in Berlin.

In a special out-of-season event, Liao Yiwu will perform his poetry and talk to Sydney Writers' Festival artistic director Chip Rolley about his exile from the land and people he loves. He will discuss his life’s great work - the interviews with China’s outcasts, many of which are collected in The Corpse Walker
